POWER OR NAME (1)
The craving and craze for power in our generation is unprecedented. There is a mad rush for power that is outside of the ordinary. Everybody definitely has inkling that there is a mix of supernatural in many circumstances and situations we find ourselves in. So, they seek for power by all means. Some as a prophylactic [preventive] measure, some as a curative. Mention must also be made of those in the extreme who seek power for mischief and the presumptuous who are just all out for adventure.
In Christendom, the quest for spiritual power is also on all time high. The reason is not far-fetched. Power encounter is very precise and spectacular in putting a stop to the proliferating works of darkness in our age. So, everybody is looking for ‘highly anointed’ men of God to solve their problems and some of the ‘men of God’ are also ready to do anything to get the power-anointing.
Let me not belabour a point that is already obvious in our society. I want to quickly take you to a scene in the Bible. The venue was somewhere in Galilee. The seventy disciples of Jesus were just returning from their missionary journey

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name,
And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Luke 10:17-20
The apostles and disciples were celebrating the power-anointing that has come on them. But Jesus cautioned them by telling them the more important thing: REJOICE, BECAUSE YOUR NAMES ARE WRITTEN IN HEAVEN.
Brethren, as we seek spiritual power, either for the wrong motive or right motive, we need to pause and ask ourselves, ‘Is my name written in heaven?’
Of what benefit will it be for us if we are delivered from the forces of hell in this world only to be delivered into the fire of hell in the world to come:
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire
Rev. 20:10
The above scripture called that book which your name must be written in heaven to escape the fire of hell the book of life. You know what that means? The book only keeps the record of those who presently have [eternal] life in them:
As thou [God] hast given him [Jesus] power over all flesh, that he [Jesus] should give eternal life…
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent
John 17:2, 3
Have you gotten the eternal life [God’s kind of life] inside of you? If not it is not too late:
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man [Jesus] be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son [Jesus], that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
John 3:14 – 16
